The aim of counselling is to help you to develop insight into your problem by drawing on your own resources, enabling you to approach life in a fresh, more positive way. It is based on building a respectful and trusting relationship between client and counsellor. The counselling process will help you to feel more in control of your life and to let go old behaviour pattens. Counselling is primarily aimed at helping resolve more recent issues such as a bereavement or a relationship problem where the cause is more apparent. Being able to talk through one's feelings with someone not involved in the problem is very liberating and can produce tremendous insight that had been blocked by the emotions.
